Writer-in-residence

HoCoPoLitSo works with the Howard County Public Schools System to provide a writer-in-residence for high schools.  The writer-in-residence visits high schools to work with students in writing workshops.

County Writing Contest

Since 1981 HoCoPoLitSo has sponsored an All County Writing Contest for high school students. Works of poetry, short stories, personal essays and short plays are nominated by high teachers in the early spring. Book awards, in many cases signed by past HoCoPoLitSo visitors, are presented in these categories at high school award ceremonies.

Shakespeare for Middle School Students

For more than two decades, in partnership with Howard County Public Schools, HoCoPoLitSo has sponsored “Scenes from Shakespeare.”  Scenes from Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hamlet are presented by local actors, introducing students not only to some of Shakespeare’s most well known plays but also to live theater.

Teacher In-Service Program

HoCoPoLitSo offers grant supported workshops by acclaimed poets and writers to county English teachers during In-Service Days as a way to enhance the methods by which students can engage in the written and spoken word.

I love the mission for this program! I live in Howard County, but I teach in PG County. Do you offer any of these services to students in other counties?
