2022-2023 Regie Cabico

Regie Cabico, a spoken word pioneer, has won The Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam and top prizes in three National Poetry Slams. Television credits include 2 seasons of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, NPR’s Snap Judgment & MTV’s Free Your Mind. Cabico received the 2006 Writers for Writers Award from Poets & Writers for work that included teaching at-risk youth at Bellevue Hospital. As a theater artist, Cabico’s awards include three New York Innovative Theater Award Nominations for Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind with a win for Best Performance Art Production. The Kenyon Review named Regie Cabico the “Lady Gaga of Poetry”. The title of a soon to be released collection is I Don’t Understand published by Day Eight.


HoCoPoLitSo is pleased to announce that its long-standing Bauder Writer-in-Residence and school programs are now significantly supported by a generous endowment from Dr. Lillian Bauder, community leader and resident of Columbia known for investing in educational access and advancement. Since the 1960’s, Lillian and her late husband Don have been engaged in civil rights and social justice efforts, and have supported the arts.
